"Dog owners who allow their pets to wander off without identification tags on their collars are being warned they could face court action.

And with children starting their school holidays, there is also a safety plea from a senior councillor.

New Forest District Council's warning follows a succession of instances in which Rusty, a golden retriever from Sway, had to be captured by dog wardens and returned to its owner Julie Payne, of Back Lane, Sway.

She was fined £100 with £75 costs by New Forest magistrates after admitting being the owner of a dog in a public place not having a collar and name and address tag." The Daily Echo (Dorset)
